In the realm of professional development, skepticism often arises when the term "business coach" is mentioned. Some question the validity and necessity of coaching in an unregulated industry where anyone can claim to be a coach. It's a fair concern to raise. After all, what sets a genuine business coach apart from the rest?

As someone deeply entrenched in both education and coaching, I understand this distinction firsthand. With a background in teaching and a tertiary degree in Education, I've always been mindful of the nuances between instructing and coaching. It wasn't until recently, after immersing myself in the world of coaching alongside accomplished coaches, that I truly allowed myself to embrace this role.

Let’s address the skepticism head-on. Some may argue, "I've been successful in business without a coach, why should I need one now?" I would counter this with a question: are you as successful as you aspire to be? Are you spending more time working in your business than you'd like? Does your business operate smoothly even when you're not directly involved?

A business is a commercial, profitable enterprise that works without you.

It's important to note that personal success in business doesn’t automatically translate to proficiency in coaching. Coaching isn’t about replicating one’s own success but about nurturing and refining the skills needed to empower others.

Coaching, fundamentally, isn't just about imparting knowledge; it's about fostering growth, unlocking potential, and driving meaningful change. Whether you’re an entrepreneur seeking clarity, a leader navigating challenges, or a team striving for peak performance, a skilled coach can make a profound difference.

For me, embracing the title of a business coach has been a deliberate journey. It began unofficially in 1986, shaped by my experiences as a student flute teacher and a member of an A-grade netball team. In the realm of business coaching, I've actively coached members of the past three businesses I ran between 2007 and 2017. Over the years, I've transitioned from imparting knowledge to facilitating transformation. However, I've always felt I could be a more effective coach, hence my pursuit of formal training.

Recently, I embarked on a journey to enhance my skills, graduating as a Success Principles Certified Canfield Trainer - you will find me here in this international directory. As part of the Train the Trainer community, I have access to multiple coaches myself. My next goal is to further expand these skills with an International Coaching Federation (ICF) accreditation. Why invest in ICF accreditation? It's not just about professional validation; it’s about personal growth and ensuring that my clients receive the highest standard of coaching. In 2025, I plan to initiate this journey towards accreditation, marking a milestone in my commitment to excellence.

To those who doubt the value of coaching, I challenge you to reconsider. Coaching isn’t a luxury reserved for the uncertain; it’s a strategic investment in your personal and professional success. Your business is a part of your life, not your whole life. Any coach worth their salt should discuss your business in the context of your whole life and your life goals. As the landscape of business evolves, so too must our approach to leadership and development. Embrace coaching not as a last resort, but as a catalyst for achieving greatness.

Let's embark on this journey together – where potential meets performance, and aspirations become achievements. Embrace the power of coaching, and unlock your true potential today.
