[Episode 51] How Can I Help? What Support Do You Need?
At a recent business awards event, I had the privilege of reconnecting with people in my network I had not seen for many, many years. It was an absolute delight to reconnect and see where our journeys had led us. In the same room, I also spent time with those I had met for the very first time.
This is what I love about building a network and nurturing it into a community. It becomes a blend of history and fresh perspectives, of relationships that have stood the test of time and those that are new but rich with possibility. I value, honour and respect these connections deeply. They remind me that networking is not just about collecting contacts, it is about creating deep, real and meaningful relationships that last.
In the past few months, whether in conversations with long-time contacts or brand-new connections, one question keeps coming up:
“How do I know what the right support is?”
The business landscape is shifting quickly. Many are juggling more responsibilities with fewer resources. Others are ready to grow but feel they have hit a plateau and cannot see the way forward.
Finding the right support is about focusing on your very next step. Ask yourself, to get me closer to my goal, do I need:
- Education that moves the needle
You want practical, evidence-based education tailored to real challenges. You want something you can walk away with and apply immediately, whether that is learning how to streamline your systems, increase sales, or improve your leadership style.
- Networking for collaboration and opportunity
Real networking is not about swapping business cards or quick introductions. It is about trust, generosity and mutual growth. Whether you have known someone for decades or just a few months, the right connection can open doors, spark ideas and create opportunities you might never have imagined.
- Accountability that keeps you moving forward
Even the most motivated leaders need someone to hold them accountable. Without that external check-in, good intentions can quietly slide down the priority list. Regular accountability keeps your focus sharp and your actions consistent.
- Clarity in setting and hitting goals
It is easy to get caught in the day-to-day and lose sight of the bigger picture. Clarity means stepping back to see where you are going, breaking it down into achievable steps and measuring progress. It is about working on the business, not just in it.
